On 12/2/2023, a major break in a water main on Smith Road resulted in a loss of positive system pressure. This condition potentially allows for contaminants, such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites, to enter the system. The entire system is not affected. Affected locations are:
Pursuant to DEP Regulations, we issued a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for the affected portion of our system. No contaminants have been detected. We will be testing the system for contaminants over the next 24-48 hours and the Advisory will be lifted once test samples determine that the water is safe. Updates will be posted on this site as conditions change.
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and cool before using; or use bottled water. You should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation until the advisory has been lifted.
Inadequately treated water may contain disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.
These symptoms, however, are not caused only by organisms in drinking water, but also by other factors. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.
People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
Repairs to the line break have been completed and positive water pressure has been restored. Initial water samples have been collected and additional samples will be collected daily thereafter. If no contaminants are detected in water samples collected over two consecutive days, the Boil Water Advisory will be lifted. If contaminants are found, the Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until further testing finds that the water is safe.
DEP requires that we notify customers within 24 hours of the issuance of a Boil Water Advisory. We have notified each customer individually via an automated phone contact system, posted notices on the Halfmoon Township website, and this website. We will notify you when the Advisory has been lifted.
A Centers for Disease Control Factsheet describing how to utilize water during a Boil Water Advisory can be found here.

Updates to the Boil Water Advisory will be posted below.

Initial water samples collected Monday were negative. Second samples were collected and delivered to the EPA certified lab in Altoona Tuesday AM and we are awaiting results. Should have results by Tuesday PM or Wednesday AM. When two consecutive days of samples show no contaminants (i.e. negative), the Boil Water Advisory will be lifted. Until then, the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for the following locations"
Individual customers will be contacted directly via phone, text, and/or email using contact information that we have in our system once the Boil Water Advisory is lifted. Please see www.upperhalfmoonwater.com to update your contact information.
